When it comes to hiring a web design company for your business, you need to ask for a portfolio; there is no way of getting around this. A web site portfolio consists of past projects that the company has worked on. This will make it easy for you to decide if the company is going to give you the results you hope for.

If you do not know the type of work a web design company has done in the past, how can you know that they are the right fit for your business web site?

Collecting a portfolio from a web design company is not as hard as it sounds. If you ask for a portfolio, reputable companies will provide one promptly. Well established, trusted web design companies post their portfolios right on their website.

There is no reason that you should hire a web design company before you see their portfolio. Some businesses hire web design companies on reputation alone, and in the end they feel as if they were duped. But when you look over a portfolio before committing to a web design company, the odds are definitely in your favor.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft's Live Search are extremely important sources of potential website traffic. Since millions of searches are performed daily, some of which relate to your website's products and services, it is critical that the relationship between your website and search engines is well understood. SEO can be summarized as aligning the content of your website to the search criteria used by potential visitors.

Link Popularity

Much like the days of high school, the popular kids seemed to get all the attention. With websites, popularity is determined by the number of other websites that link to yours. Search engines see these inbound links as a measure of how important your website is. Reciprocal links are agreed upon link exchanges between two websites. One-way links are just as they sound, other websites links to yours, seeing your website as an important reference. Link building is the process of increasing the number of reciprocal and one-way links to your website. One way to gauge link popularity is search engines assigned page ranking. Some websites naturally will out rank others, in terms of popularity.

Content

Search engines place importance on high quality, original content. Websites that contain original material, as opposed to reposting another website's material, are believed to be rewarded with an improved ranking. Each page on a website should be focused on a specific message, which can be summarized by a few words. The closer these keywords match search criteria, the more likely your website will be found.

Website Advertisements

Advertisements can be placed on other websites which link to your website. These advertisements can be in the form of images, animations, text link or text link blocks. When placed appropriately, as to enhance another corresponding website, website advertisements can increase website traffic.

Pay-per-click advertising is a way of driving traffic to your website by paying for each visitor. As visitors see your advertisement on other websites or search engines, and click the link to your website, you are charged for that visitor. Also known as PPC, pay-per-click advertising is a very targeted approach to driving a specific market to your website.

Be patient, persevere and research these techniques, to increase your website traffic make your web design pay off.

In this article I will pretend that you own a shopping web site called PrettyDresses.com. Your web site is very lovely, full of pictures of dresses in all the latest styles and trends. Anyone who has found your site is very impressed with the selection of products and beautiful pictures. But you ask yourself, why is your traffic so low? Why isn't anybody finding my site? What can I do? The answer is quite clear and the problem is quite easy to solve.

Almost without thinking, web surfers (more specifically web searchers) will pop open their search engine and type in something like 'evening gown'. As this is their first thought, it should also be yours. Does your web site contain the words and phrases that web searchers are using to find your products and services? Are those words found on your website many, many times, only a few times, or not at all?

On regular intervals search engines crawl the web, reading and collecting information on the sites they come across. As they come across your website, they look for what the most frequently used words are phrases are to determine just what it is that your web site is all about. The better your web site does at effectively using the phrases that are being searched, the higher up the list your web site will be displayed on web searches. If your web site's content does not match what is being searched, it will not be found. It is a simple as that.

It should be clear by now that you should be starting to put together a list of keyword phrases to include within your web site. This list should include your products and services and any related items. There are many people searching for dresses as you are reading these words. Do they all use the exactly same phrases - of course not. Your mission is to discover as many of these phrases as possible and which phrases or words are used most frequently. The list should be prioritized based on which words are used in searches most frequently.

Brainstorm. Sit and think about what your web site is really all about. Close your eyes and picture your website as a store with customers looking around. What are they looking for? What are they asking you for? "Excuse me, I'm looking for a..."

Think about which words relate to your products and services. What is another name for dress - a gown, evening gown, sun-dress, a cute black dress, etc.

Be sure to ask family and friends, and clients and associates. Which phrases or words might they use when looking for your products and services? You are soon to discover a pattern. The most commonly used search terms will start to emerge.

Which keywords do high end competing web sites use, that carry products and services that are similar to yours? Their research may save you some of your own.

Pretend to be different types of customers. Be a customer that knows exactly what they want and jot that down. Also be the customer that is just looking around, or looking for ideas. This second customer may use more generic terms, while the first customer may refer to specific items. What other types of shoppers can you pretend to be? What about a wealthy shopper versus a bargain hunter?

Are some of the words on your list often misspelled? If so make sure to jot down the incorrect spelling as well. Poor spellers also have money to spend.

Are your products or services focused on a specific geographical location? If so, be sure to jot down the neighborhood, quadrant, city, state, and even country. A visitor may not want to drive too far from home and may therefore search for 'dresses in south Dallas'.

Also be sure to include the different variations of your selected keywords - for example: dress and dresses.

Remember to keep a balance between keeping your pages readable by both visitors and search engines. An over-optimized page will include many, many keywords which will improve your positioning with search engines, but may sound like nonsense and unprofessional to a real human visitor. Don't turn away potential customers after they've found you. Some search engines have been known to punish web sites that attempt to trick the system with keyword spamming on their web pages.

Now its time to get to work. Use these ideas in this article to optimize your web site's content. Be sure to include the words and phrases that your potential visitors have in mind. Don't forget about your web site's title and description meta tags, which are only read by search engines. With some hard work and careful analysis you'll be sure to see a lot more traffic in your future.

Australian Fundraising For Overseas Holidays

An overseas trip is always very exciting. This is never more the case then when you're a child and have never been outside of your homeland before. A number of children's first international experience involves going away as part of a group, whether it be a sports team, choir or other type of organisation. These sorts of overseas holidays are always extra special, as they involve travelling with other young friends away from the watchful eye of parents. And these vacations also involve doing an activity which the children are passionate about.

But alas these trips, as great as they are, are also very expensive. Travelling to another country involves pricey airfares, accommodation, food and sightseeing expenditures. This all adds up. In a number of cases, the parents don't simply have thousands of dollars lying around to put towards their kids club holiday, and the organisations will normally be far from being able to subsidise the trip. That is where fundraising comes into play.

Fundraising in Australia comes in many shapes and sizes. There are the traditional fundraiser activities such as raffles, bake sales, trivia nights, chocolate drives and auctions, but there are also a number of fundraising events which are unique to Australia. The great southern land has a number of unique sports, such as Aussie Rules footy, and a vast number of young groups travelling overseas are junior football teams. Their fundraising efforts are consistently based around "footy", which is obviously what they are most passionate about.

When fundraising Australia style, some of the ideas that footy clubs come up with include selling famous football memorabilia, hosting celebrity footy games, sausage sizzles, and themed footy parties. Top level football players are only too happy to sign uniforms and balls which can be auctioned off at the clubs charity nights. These star players know only too well the importance of grass roots football, and want to give back to the game that has treated them so well.

Other sports such as netball, basketball and cricket also have similar themed fundraising events, using the popular appeal of their chosen sports to help them raise money for their overseas holiday. They always put on a good show because the area which they focus on is very close to their heart and they know how to make it work. Especially if you are part of a sports team, you know all about teamwork and working together which will help you get the most out of your fundraising efforts.

It is important, when planning an overseas holiday for your organisation, to work out exactly what your goals are before you start. Knowing exactly how much money each person needs to make can determine whether a holiday destination is feasible. If your target is too far away, you may need to settle for a trip to New Zealand instead of America. Whatever the case, plan carefully and follow through with enthusiasm. And you will be on your exciting club holiday in no time!

Mother Nature Slows 2010 Minorca Vacations

A majority of bank forecasts indicate that the recession in Europe and the U.S. over its worst - hopefully - and this year had all the signs of being a good one for the Minorca holidays industry.

Tourism to the island has been down in the last couple of years, in common with most Mediterranean islands, as a direct result of the bank failures and subsequent recession that hit consumer spending on things like overseas holidays hard.

But a turnaround was definitely on the cards with good early bookings, and a sense of optimism was in the air among the hotel owners and flight operators.

But then came along Eyjafjallajokull - or as it's become better known in Europe and the wider world, the Iceland volcano - which after erupting continuously for over a month caused an ash cloud that grounded planes, left holidaymakers stranded, and caused a lot of people to reconsider their Minorca holidays for this year.

The direct consequence has been that instead of booking a few months ahead many tourists have held off and are booking their Minorca holidays much closer to their intended arrival dates - leaving some tour operators and villa holiday companies with excess accommodation and reducing prices.

And airlines lost out big time as those based in the EU had to pay for accommodation for those passengers they couldn't fly home, even though insurers often got away with paying out. The airlines industry feel that as the governments stopped them flying, they should now pay their bills without some will run at a loss this year.

It's not just the hotels in Minorca that have been affected by the volcano among the Mediterranean islands where tourism forms an important part of the local economy, and is reliant on flights to bring the tourists in to their hotels and for their villa holidays for a week or two.

Malta for example saw a sharp decline in visitors in April and May, and local media have reported that the national flag carrier Air Malta could have lost over 3 million Euros in April alone as their planes were effectively grounded and flights to their important UK market halted altogether for some time.

Unlike Malta, Minorca doesn't have an airline to speak of that it can call her own, but Mahon Airport is well served with both low cost airlines and tour operators from both the UK and Germany have regular flights to Menorca at various times of the day, with scheduled flights available out of the holidays season.

But there is some good news around, despite the awful start to the year. While there were plenty of Menorca villa holidays available for June and July to be booked when looking for availability in early May, a month later a lot of them had gone by early June, showing that potential visitors were gaining confidence as the volcano quietened down.

And the price cuts that were showing are now back to something like their normal level. But for those thinking of taking a villa holiday in September when the weather is still normally good, there are some available for under UK 700 - it's quieter then with the schools back and if Minorca villa holidays are something to be considered it could be worth investigating further.

Despite the volcano the number of people taking holidays this year could be up on last years total and 2011 should be an improvement too.

Processing Costs Sky High? Lower Your Equipment costs - Pressure Leaf Filters for Example

What do used process equipment products - like a pressure leaf filter - have to do with saving jobs? Find out here:

This is not a good time for industry. Making ends meet has rarely been tougher for processors, builders, manufacturers, and ilk. Surprisingly, this follows a golden age for American industry. Industrial companies were actually price setters for most of the past ten years, which is a rarity in and of itself. However, those days are past and the nation must adjust to the current period as if it were the new normal.

The construction industry has really taken a beating during the great recession. The US market has seen construction prices plummet from its 2008 peak, but costs to the companies in the industry have not fallen at a commensurate level. Many companies are being forced to take on projects that pay below a break-even point just to stay in business.

Until the economy turns around, construction companies will not be able to force these prices back up (at least not without massive shutdowns that lead to supply decreasing). If they are being honest with themselves, they probably realize that this decade's peak prices were probably a bit inflated from where they should have been anyways. As such, the only way to gain profitability would be to lower costs. This is difficult as most companies are already working with a skeleton crew and overhead costs are what they are.

The solution lies in finding cheaper equipment. For large scale companies, process equipment is a huge expense. For example, a pressure leaf filter can run well into the tens of thousands of dollars. That is a large expense to simply remove particles from your product. But, a used pressure leaf filter - one that is reliable and proven from past use - can be had at a fraction of the price. In this economy, how does buying new make sense?

The advantages of going with used products over new products at this point in time are numerous. First of all, used products are typically just as reliable - if not more so - than new units. They are proven performers, otherwise they would be junked and not resold (assuming that you trust the retailer). Second, used products offer multiple savings over new products. There are the obvious lower initial costs, but do not forget that - because the equipment is already aged - there are also lower depreciation costs. While depreciation is an intangible cost that is not actually realized until the product is resold or junked, it is still an accounting cost and factors into the overhead for each and every item/project produced. Third, used process equipment has obviously been around longer so we have a better understanding of it. Much of it is simpler than the complicated machinery of modern equipment and is easier to fix if it were to break down.

If a construction or processing company is to survive through the Great Recession, they have to think smarter in addition to working harder. You can't save your way to prosperity, but you can save your way to survival.

Healthy Teeth, Happy You

The Basics

Looking after your teeth starts in the bathroom. Simple brushing twice a day for two minutes will remove plaque that contains harmful bacteria, which can often lead to gum disease. As gum disease is the most common cause of halitosis (bad breath) and tooth loss in adults, regular brushing is vital.

There are other simple things you can do to help keep your mouth in tip-top shape.

• Cleaning your tongue, either with a toothbrush or plastic tongue scraper
• Using an antiseptic mouthwash every day
• Smoking increases the risk of gum disease, while sugary foods and drinks both create an environment in which bacteria thrives. Cutting down on both will help
• Flossing removes debris that a toothbrush can't reach

Tooth Fairies Pay Premium for Healthy Teeth

Children's brushing should initially be supervised to ensure all areas of the teeth are getting cleaned properly and to minimise the swallowing of toothpaste. A suitable toothbrush will be small enough to reach all areas of the mouth and toothpaste made for children is also recommended. If children get in the habit of looking after their teeth then oral hygiene should come as second nature to them - tell children the tooth fairy leaves more money for healthy teeth and they'll look forward to brushing them!

Dentists work for you

Visits to the dentists should begin whenever teeth start developing and take place every six months. Ideally these twice-yearly visits should continue, but a minimum once-yearly check-up is essential. Your dentist, as well as ensuring the health of your teeth and gums, can give you advice on the best way to brush and floss your teeth and give you further advice if you require more specialist treatment.

Dentists are professional and understand any concerns you may have so there's no need to fear a check-up. Some consider the cost of dental care an easily avoidable luxury, but putting the health of your teeth at jeopardy may lead to more complex and expensive procedures needing to be carried out. As there are health, dental, and payment plans available you really can't afford putting the health of your teeth at risk.

With a healthy set of teeth and gums you'll really feel like you have something to smile about.

Treating Tooth Decay

Good oral hygiene is essential to ensure your teeth and gums remain healthy. Brushing your teeth twice a day for three minutes, making sure to pay special attention to the point where the teeth and gums meet, is a great starting point but won't guarantee a completely healthy mouth.

One of the more frequent dental problems is dental caries, known commonly as tooth decay, which can result in holes in the teeth. Tooth decay is caused by bacteria in the mouth mixing with bits of food and saliva to create a sticky coating called plaque. Food and drink that is very sugary or starchy reacts with the plaque to produce an acid that, if left untreated, causes damage to the teeth.

Fluoride Varnish

Depending on the stage of tooth decay there are a number of treatments the dentist can offer you. A fluoride varnish may be applied to the damaged area if caught early. Fluoride is found naturally in our food and drink and is added to many types of toothpaste. A fluoride varnish is a very simple and effective treatment for curbing the growth of tooth decay.

Fillings and Crowns

For more advanced cases fillings or crowns are used to correct the damage. A filling acts as a substitute for missing tooth enamel (the hard outer layer of the tooth that is eroded away by the acid). Fillings come in several materials but the NHS only offers amalgam fillings (made from a combination of mercury and a metal alloy containing silver, zinc, tin and copper) because it considers ‘white fillings' to be a cosmetic treatment. A private dentist will help you choose the filling most suitable for you.

Root Canal Therapy

For tooth decay that has spread to the pulp (an inner layer of tooth that contains the nerves) root canal therapy will be necessary. This is the removal of natural tooth pulp to be replaced by artificial pulp that keep the tooth in position. Recent innovations mean that it is reasonably painless if performed by a skilled dentist, contrary to its reputation as a painful procedure.

Preventing Tooth Decay

These treatments are very effective and vital in preventing further damage to your teeth, which can result in having to have the tooth removed, but there are extra preventative measures you can take. Flossing, for example, helps remove bits of debris lodged between teeth that toothbrushes can't reach. Dietary changes can also help - cutting down on sugary foods and fizzy drinks lowers the amount of acid attacking your teeth.

Ultimately, regular check-ups with the dentist are the best way to ensure extensive treatment isn't needed. They will be able to thoroughly clean your mouth and carry out tests to see if tooth decay is in its early stages - and if it is, treat it early with a simple fluoride varnish. Regular check-ups at the dentists make preventative measures and tackling problems early on possible, which is good news for you and great news for your mouth.

Ways You Can Successfully Train As A Plumber

Plumbing is a highly technical job. While the profession tends to raise images in our mind's eye of a large, unattractive and overweight man who's lacking in the hygiene department, that's ultimately an unfair judgment. All sorts of people become plumbers, and it involves a lot more work than just snaking toilets and drains in people's homes. It takes a lot of work to train as a plumber, and when you're done you'll be able to do a wide range of jobs- and there's nothing that says you can't keep clean in the process.

You can actually approach plumbing from a largely academic angle and be very successful. While the profession requires a lot of hands-on work, there are a lot of intellectual aspects to it all. To train as a plumber, you need to really understand a number of technical disciplines, like mathematics and chemistry. Furthermore, a lot of plumbers are self employed and prefer to run their own business, so it's a great idea to take a few business and economics classes as well. By focusing on technical disciplines and business skills in high school, you will be in a good position once you graduate.

Of course, you can also complete a four year degree if you want, though it might not be as necessary. If you want to get working as soon as possible, it's a better idea to enroll in a large school with vocational studies that can teach you the trade. Because you'll be enrolled in the school, you'll be able to take other classes as well, furthering your business education or what ever other aspect of the profession you want to learn more about. A lot of schools that offer vocational learning also offer business classes specifically designed to teach you how to run your own plumbing, electrical, or other construction and repair based business. While obviously you want to become the best plumber you can, you don't need to be the best of the best to succeed if you understand the business aspects of it all.

Now, if you feel like you've learned enough from high school and you want to start working immediately, you can contact a local contractor or other construction business about interning or apprenticing with them. This will give you the opportunity to work and get paid, to learn other jobs and aspects of the business, while getting some of the most practical training you need to become a plumber. Remember that you don't need to earn a degree to become a plumber; you just need to pass the certification. Working on job sites and learning as you go is a great way to get the skill needed to pass the exam.

You can also apprentice with your local union if you'd like, but this is a highly competitive position to break in to, with only about 1 in every 20 candidates being selected. It's arguable that you will get a better, more focused education from them, but once again any of these paths will help you train as a plumber well enough to become certified.

Pursuing Electrician Training Stress Free and Successfully

If you're looking for a new career to pursue and master, one that is practical and always in demand, then you will have a hard time doing better than becoming an Electrician. While it might not be the most glamorous job, it all but ensures steady employment. Electrician training will provide you with the knowledge, the skills and the hands-on training that you require to start a long and lasting career as an electrician.

One of the great things about electrician training is the fact that it prepares you for a wide range of professions. You can work in industrial fields, on large machinery and power structures. You can work in the commercial or residential fields. You can specialize on maintenance and repair work, or you can do more general projects. Electrical work can encompass anything from connection issues to heating problems, security systems to construction.

Being a successful and regularly employed electrician involves an intensive initial course of training, followed by life-long hands on work and skill training and improvement. Even if you are fortunate enough to hold one position your whole life, this position can encompass a wide variety of duties. Think of all the thing you might have to do as an electrician- you'll need to keep up and repair electrical systems as they run into problems, update circuit breakers and ensure that circuits don't break down, maintain and install appliances and full electrical systems, collaborate with engineers and other specialists, diagnose electrical problems and their cures, work with a wide variety of equipment, and be able to read and create complicated blueprints and diagrams. If you're going to pursue electrician training, then you need to take it seriously.

When you pursue your training, you need to understand that most colleges don't offer a degree in being an electrician. Instead of attending a traditional college, you'll need to obtain a certificate from a technical or vocational school. It's also a very good idea to pursue an apprenticeship, where you learn hands-on under the tutelage and instruction of an experienced electrician. The best way to begin your apprenticeship is to contact a union affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association.

Whichever route you take, expect to spend a few years properly learning your new trade. It takes about four full years studying and training to complete your program. Of these training, most will involve hands on training- becoming an electrician takes 2000 hours of hands-on work, with only 144 hours on classroom based theoretical training. Because it's so skewed towards actual work, you need to make sure that the avenue you pursue for your electrician training leans heavily towards in-field and practical laboratory work.
